04-29-2017 - 2017 State VASE Event

VASE - VISUAL ARTS SCHOLASTIC EVENT
APRIL 28-29, 2017
SAN ANTONIO, TX

WOW...
I just got in from San Antonio-State Visual Art Scholastic Event.  Great NEWS!!
Our very own 11th Grader, STEPHANIE LARA, from my Advanced class, won  STATE GOLD MEDAL!!!

Not only did she win GOLD, but the judges awarded her art a PERFECT SCORE!..

Our year has been the best year of my teaching career and it isn't over yet.  We have more planned and this summer I will be active, teaching these guys, and also having field trips during the weeks in June and July.

In 2016 -17 we have painted the life size elephant mural and delivered it to be exhibited in the Museum of Natural Science this summer for an unveiling.  The Houston Zoo features our conservation paintings, and now we are currently involved in painting 12 new murals for the Houston Zoo due, to finish this summer and deliver them in time for Children's Zoo Camps 2017.

At the Regional Art competition in February my students  won 50 of 53 GOLD medals, highest among all attending schools.  In April we entered into the Charter School Art Festival State competition in Austin and senior Hilary Mendoza won the GOLD Medal first place in Texas.

That makes GOLD medals at both Public and Charter School Events!

In case many of you haven't heard we are trying to fund a trip to Africa for conservation and animal art studies in 2018 and many of our art activities are education and art driven events.  This summer we have many art happening planned and we will be actively engaged in painting and studying wildlife in the field around Texas on foot, vehicle and in kayaks.  Many of the Saturdays this year we have been out exploring and photographing nature for our artwork, which we enter into these competitions.  I recently took my students to Wimberley Texas and they got to see my 6 ft acrylic painted boot on display in the center of town and now I have been commissioned to paint an 8 ft mermaid for the city of San Marcos and my students will be involved with the entire process.

I just want to say that having wonderful passionate dedicated art students and super supportive parents have made my last few years of teaching fantastic, with this year the happiest I have been teaching. Thank you HGA for everyone who supports us and believe me-- we are changing lives, instilling confidence and creating art students that can and will follow their dreams.
