We should all be so proud of our students showing their amazing art pieces to the judges at the Art Fest.  

First and foremost, a big round of applause for our FIRST PLACE - STATE CHAMPION: HILLARY MENDOZA (Senior) with a GOLD MEDAL. 

 

This competition is different from the public School VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event), where students compete for scores to get their individual medals.  Charter School State is much more difficult.  Each section of art 4-6, 7-8, 9-12...gets only three awards -1st, 2nd, 3rd....that's it. 

Nobody else gets an award. 

 

Hillary won first in the HS division at Charter School VASE!!!!!!!  Jumping up and down and shouting and crying, we were Excited!  This girl was in my advanced class first semester and is not in art this semester but she still finished her art on her own time and by coming to my room during lunch or after school and is a dedicated talented artist who will probably continue on the next level. 

 

This has been the best year for our Art Program of my many years here and each time i think we have peaked, we reach higher.  Starting with our 9 art students in 2010, with 3 Gold medals, to this year's 50 out of 53.   Now a STATE CHARTER GOLD MEDAL for Hillary Mendoza, and in 3 weeks Stephanie Lara will compete in San Antonio for STATE Visual Arts Event. 

 

All i know is that i LOVE teaching ART to these art starved children and opening their eyes to amazing careers on a path in the arts. Thanks everyone for supporting our art loving kids pursuing careers in animation, graphic design, visual design, painting, sculpting, game design and more....They are our future success!!   We also drove through Wimberley and they took a picture with the BOOT i painted for the city!
